The OAM Project

Born in Ghana. Growing globally.

About The OAM Project

OAM stands for Once A Month. We are a women-led effort for menstrual health, education, and dignity, beginning in Ghana and welcoming a wider circle of support.

It started with a message.

In 2021, Kate Noel in Michigan connected with Anne Ethel Komlaga in Ghana on LinkedIn. A conversation became friendship, and friendship became practical support for work led locally.

Anne leads menstrual health and education work through Quantum Ideas Ghana. Kate, of Marketing Mafia, builds the bridge from Michigan, connecting people who want to support that work. Communities are partners with knowledge, priorities, and agency of their own.

Kate later invited Anne to speak at her Rotary Club. That connection also began the Rotary International Global Grant journey for the Sustainable Livelihood Empowerment Initiative, a separate, multi-year, community-led skills-training and enterprise-development program for women and girls in Ghana. It is distinct from OAM's menstrual health work.

The work over time

  1. 2021

    A first message

Kate and Anne connect on LinkedIn. The conversation becomes a friendship.

  2. Each year

World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Ghana

Anne leads a program of education, menstrual hygiene products and celebration through Quantum Ideas Ghana.

  3. Each month

    A rhythm of care

Seven days to invite gifts of $1 or more. The rest of the month for education, resources and awareness.

  4. Last documented: Sept 2026

    Proposed first signature project

An existing school washroom renovation was being considered and scoped. Current status and local costs need confirmation.

Local leadership. A wider circle.

Anne's annual World Menstrual Hygiene Day program brings together education, menstrual hygiene products, and culturally respectful celebrations. Support should strengthen local leadership, never replace it.

Earlier OAM site reporting described 500+ girls reached through the Ghana program. This is historical reporting, not an independently verified recent total. Our gallery shows past program moments, not progress on future projects.

The next focus is a planned first signature school washroom renovation. Explore the current focus →
